“The family is commonly defined as a domestic Church.” (General Directory for Catechesis 255) as the church’s mission is to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them….., and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded”. (Matthew 28:19-20), we as parents are called to this same mission within our own families.
Family Formation provides the support needed for parents to be successful in their role as “principal and first educators of their children.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1653) It is our goal to aid families as they grow in their love and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. Family Formation is for all children in grades K-5 and their families regardless of whether they attend public school, private school, or home school. It replaces the traditional classroom model of faith formation used in previous years.
Starting in October, families will gather the first Wednesday of each month at the church. While the students are being taught by catechists (teachers) in grade-level classrooms, the parents will attend an adult teaching on the same topic.
Parents will then be provided with weekly Home Lessons to be taught at home for the remainder of the month.
Cost of the program is $50 per family.
